Queer Alterations, a series started in 2022, reappropiates paintings from the 1824 edition of the persian sex manuscript Lizzat Al-Nissa, originally written in 14th century, this series provides sex education through poems and humour, as well as miniature painted visual guides. The manuscript does not include any signs of queer intimacies in its 52+ paintings. Queer Alterations therefore takes on the mission to reclaim the history of queerness, erased from Iran’s history, through plaigarising these paintings and creating images which are missing from these archives.
